The Adibadri Akshaya Tritiya Satua Teej Fair is an ancient and historic event, said to have been initiated by King Virata. Press Release

Adibadri (Vyaspur): Former village head of Kathgarh and coordinator of the Raja Virata Heritage Conservation Institute, Sultan Singh, shared that, like every year, a grand fair and traditional wrestling competition (Kushti Dangal) will be organized on the sacred occasion of Akshaya Tritiya in the village of Kathgarh.

Sharing the historical background of the fair and wrestling event, he explained that this tradition began when King Virata’s daughter Uttara was married to Arjuna’s son Abhimanyu. In celebration of this union between two great families, the fair was established. Since then, the Dangal has been organized continuously, a tradition that continues even today. For centuries, the residents of Kathgarh village, under the local Panchayat, have begun the Satua Teej Fair with the worship of saints and holy men, followed by honoring the village elders, and then initiating the wrestling matches.

This fair reflects the rich cultural and historical heritage of Adibadri. Its importance is not only historical but also lies in its role in fostering cultural and social unity in the region. Those who participate in the fair experience the prosperity of Adibadri’s legacy. The fair, first started by King Virata, stands as a significant celebration showcasing both cultural and historical heritage and promotes regional social cohesion.

Former Sarpanch Sultan Singh provided detailed insights into this historic fair and its associated events. He and the villagers believe that Adibadri is an important religious and historical site located in the Yamunanagar district. Several major events and legends are linked with this place, making it a sacred and historically significant location.

The Mata Mantra Devi Temple, situated in Adibadri and dedicated to Goddess Mantra Devi, is one of the prominent religious sites. It is believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas in collaboration with King Virata. This temple is a key attraction in Adibadri and enhances the site’s spiritual importance.

The Adibadri Akshaya Tritiya Fair is a major religious celebration held at Adibadri on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. The site is connected to several crucial events and stories such as:

  • The Mata Mantra Devi Temple
  • Sage Ved Vyasa and the composition of the Mahabharata
  • The Pandavas’ incognito exile
  • Remnants of King Virata’s palace
  • Discovery of ancient Shivalingas
  • And the annual Akshaya Tritiya fair itself.

Altogether, these elements make Adibadri a center of religious and historical significance, offering participants both spiritual and cultural enrichment through its events and traditions.
